Me: Why do some people wear clothes that are generally considered very strange (e.g. punk or emo)? They clearly know most people don’t like it.
Friend: It increases the variance.
Me: But it decreases the expected value.
Friend: Well, you can fuck the variance, but you can’t fuck the expected value.
